One year in

Welcome to Delphi’s fourth quarterly update!

It’s a year since we launched, so we’ve reflected on the progress we’ve made over the past 12 months and what we’ve learnt along the way…

Milestones so far

Last month we were thrilled to be crowned Provoke Media’s EMEA New Consultancy of the Year, at the SABRE Awards in London. It was genuinely unexpected as we were only 11 months old on the day of the ceremony – but we were incredibly proud to be recognised, and it gave us enormous validation for what we’ve achieved so far and the ambition we’ve set out for the business.

Marking our 1st birthday, we’ve updated our website with some new examples of our work and recent clients. Check out our work page here.

We’ve also got to the point now where we’re looking to hireour first job ad is up online, so please apply if you think you fit the bill – and over the next two or three months we should be in a position to start growing headcount. Watch this space.

Our work

We’ve just completed some client projects that we’re particularly proud of.

For global business telco operator Wavecrest, we’ve aligned the re-launch of the business around a powerful rallying cry – “fanatical about voice”. Working as both fractional CMO and his external marketing consultants, we’ve overseen a complete rebrand, with a new logo, visual identity and website.

We also developed a new brand narrative, a thought leadership report as key launch collateral, and POVs for four key execs to raise the company’s profile as industry leaders on LinkedIn. This activity generated 30 SQLs on launch day alone.

For global automotive firm Inchcape, we’ve helped strengthen and develop its position in the Asia-Pacific market through a “Regional Resilience Report” for the company’s board.

Interviewing 20 experts from across nine countries around the region, including PwC and Bloomberg among others, our report informed board thinking on key trends like the rise of Chinese OEMs and changing consumer behaviour. It also provided the basis of high-profile CEO interviews to land Inchcape’s story.

More details, along with testimonials from some of the 10 happy clients we’ve worked with to date, are on our updated website!

What we’re seeing in the market

The comms market has been tough over the past year. As the latest PR Week league tables make clear, most agencies were fairly flat or slightly down, while newer and nimbler entrants were able to achieve decent growth from their starting positions.

We have a macro view that the future of the industry is in niche, specialised businesses with high-value services and low fixed cost bases. That’s where expertise can thrive best, where clients see most benefit, and where work can have most impact. We don’t see anything in the past year to dissuade us from that view.

Thinking and speaking

We’re now up to 50 issues of our weekly Delphi Digest – our round-up of news, views, links and inspiration in the worlds of tech, media and communications. Do sign up here if you’re interested.

This quarter we’ve also written about how the internet has misunderstood advertising (and why that matters), and what a complex adaptive system is (and why you should care).

And we held another Delphi dinner where we talked about the intersection of brand and reputation in B2B comms. Let us know if you’d like to be on the invite list for our next dinner this summer.
