We’re asked a lot by clients and prospects ‘Why us’ when selecting a consultancy partner.
The same five things come up time and time again in response to client challenges and how we can help.
💍 Engaged, motivated people – We hear this almost every single time. Clients want to work with established teams where they can create a partnership over time. Sure, people move on. But at my last agency we got to 50-odd people without losing significant numbers of staff. Aligned purpose, culture, interesting work and strong line management keep teams intact. Younger consultancies like ours still have that energy and have founders working hard to create the buzz.
🤝In service of client, not the P&L – Larger agencies spend much more of their time managing resource and teams to maintain revenue and margin at the expense of client needs. It’s the complete opposite at a smaller independent.
👨🏻🦳Senior people that do the work – We’ve all been asked in pitches, ‘so who will do the work?’. The typical answer is the least senior person who can credibly say ‘me’ and still win the pitch. At Delphi, however, the people who win the work do the work.
🧱Building the answer together – If what you sell is media relations that is invariably what you offer to the client. We think there’s a better way. Agility, flexibility and the ability to build services directly for clients ultimately create stronger relationships, and they’re based on mutual trust and a spirit of curiosity too.
🏆 The need to succeed – Ellie Thompson, Pete Marcus and I bootstrapped Delphi from savings. It was a calculated risk and came with some jeopardy. But over two years it’s given us a hardened sense of needing to succeed for ourselves and our families, something that I’ve not felt in my career to date. This jeopardy hugely benefits our clients, both in how we challenge and deliver for them.
